Brazil sanctions divorce by Internet website

Brazil has approved a bill that would allow consensual divorces to be filed and resolved on the internet.

The Brazilian Senate's official news agency said the bill would speed up divorce proceedings, allowing couples to split without lawyers or having to wait in line in court.

Couples could file for legal separations and divide property via the internet as well, according to the bill approved by the Senate constitutional commission.

It would have to be approved by the House of Representatives and signed by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva before becoming law.

The Senate commission also voted in June to eliminate the required year of legal separation before a divorce can be granted.

Nature Calls: Monkeys like Monkey Music, of course

The cute Cotton-top tamarin monkeys (not Artic Monkeys) grew calmer after they heard 'musical' compositions based on their own calm, friendly calls, but the monkeys became more agitated when University of Wisconsin-Madison psychology professor Charles Snowdon played music that contained elements of their own threatening or fearful calls.

iPhone Alerts for Epidemics in People and Pets

Science Daily reports a new iPhone application, created by researchers at Children's Hospital in Boston in collaboration with the MIT Media Lab, enables users to track and report outbreaks of infectious diseases, such as H1N1 (swine flu), rabies, distemper, canine flu and West Nile disease, in real time.

This is the latest of several apps that would be of special interest to neurotics and pet owners, alike.

The application, Outbreaks Near Me, builds upon the asset of HealthMap, an online resource that collects, filters, maps and disseminates information about emerging infectious diseases, and provides a view of a user's specific location – pinpointing outbreaks that have been reported in the vicinity of the user and offering the opportunity to search for additional outbreak information by location or disease.

Outbreaks Near Me also alerts a user on their device or by e-mail when new outbreaks are reported in their proximity, or if a user enters a new area of threat and activity.

French stuntman Alain Robert is Spiderman

Mountains were never enough for French stuntman Alain Robert, who conquered so many of them in his teens that he turned his attention to skyscrapers.

Now 47, Robert has climbed some of the tallest buildings in the world, typically without the aid of safety equipment. On Sept. 1, armed with nothing but the chalk on his hands and some good climbing shoes, the "French Spiderman" added the 88-story Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur to his impressive list — which now totals more than 70 — of skyscrapers scaled.

It was Robert's third attempt at climbing the building, a feat known as "buildering"; he had been captured by security guards on his first two tries, in 1997 and 2007. He was arrested after completing the stunt and now faces 6 months behind bars and a $850 fine.

He is thinking of taking his case to the 'highest' court in the land ........but that's really just for fun!
