The inter-town rivalry of Airdrie and Coatbridge is well known in the wider area of Central Scotland, as is their reputation for non-passive aggression, religious intolerance and dark humour.
I offer you a recent news story that goes, in some way to illustrate the rivalry and the sharp edged humour that has evolved here.
The Headline in the Glasgow Herald proclaimed;
"A cache of guns has been found dumped behind a public library by a member of the public.
The weapons were discovered in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, this morning and are now being forensically examined by officers.
Police would not say how many guns were discovered or whether they were handguns or shotguns.
Strathclyde Police said they could not confirm any link to the gangland execution of Kevin Carroll in a supermarket car park earlier this month."
The subsequent comments from Airdrie included the "shock, horror statement that Coatbridge had a public library"
